Freedom Memoirs – Day 310

by mohingamatters

Following Kyimyindaing massacre where five peaceful protestors were said to be killed by regime forces, residents in Yangon made a pact that they must keep the fighting spirit alive and remind everyone who seems to forget the fact that the country is still under the military control. Cue the banging of pots and pans, nights of Yangon have come alive once again around 8pm. Netizens shared the footages of loud banging of pans on the social media, at least Thaketa, Pazundaung, Hlaing, Thingangyun and Yankin townships participated last night. However, the night did not pass without junta’s cruelty as many soldiers were caught on camera mouthing profanities and terrorizing civilians’ properties. At least one person was reportedly abducted in Thaketa.

About the same time in Mandalay last night, a five-year-old girl became the latest child victim of junta’s atrocities. An explosion took place around 8pm near the ward administration office where many soldiers were deployed in Chanmyatharsi Township and as a retaliation, regime soldiers reportedly opened fires towards the neighborhood. The little girl who was playing in her compound took a bullet and died on the spot. The armed thugs were heard yelling “If you want democracy, remain under the military government” as they fired live rounds.

News came in from Sagaing Region this morning that junta’s forces were using military choppers and heavy artilleries to attack Depayin Township. Since 7am, at least 50 shots were fired from artilleries and helicopters were used starting 9.15am, according to Voice of Depeyin, the local based media. At least six shots were fired from the sky. Depayin’s People Defense Force (PDF) released an emergency statement, forbidding people from using certain roads in the area to avoid falling victims and being used as human shields. Consequently, many civilians have been stuck in a monastery, Khit Thit Media reported. On a related note, State Administration Council (SAC) has been reportedly utilizing Namhsan airbase for more airstrikes in Sagaing.

Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA), the self-claimed border guard army of India and Myanmar, has consistently harassed the resistance forces since the coup although it promised the exact opposite in April. ZRA had ambushed local PDF, destroyed outposts, and claimed that it would not accept any military training or operation in its territory. Myanmar Now reported today that ZRA has been responsible for the killing of U Kyin Shan Som, one of the leaders of PDF Zoland in Tedim Township, Chin State on December 5. The 38-year-old was hiding in the town when ZRA contacted him for a meeting on December 4 and he was found dead with two bullet wounds in the next day. PDF Zoland spokesperson said ZRA might have been seeking for revenge of its missing soldier, but it had nothing to do with PDF.

Majority of people all over the country have suffered the cunning Min Aung Hlaing’s cruelty in one or another form since February. But some have experienced far worse. This morning around 8am, at least 11 villagers were tied and burned to death by regime soldiers in Salingyi Township, Sagaing Region, according to Khit Thit Media. Picture and video footages circulated on the social media. A local said that cries for help from the victims were heard but nobody was able to come to the rescue. This horrendous act of Min Aung Hlaing’s soldiers was said to be a response to the constant detonation attacks they had suffered in the area. However, tying and burning helpless civilians is a war crime, a pretty big one that will hopefully put a rope around Min Aung Hlaing’s neck one day.

A bad day for reporting did not end there. A restaurant owner, U Pyae Sone Oo, from Myeik Township of Tanintharyi Region was abducted last Saturday and his family was informed yesterday to collect the dead body. The 40-year-old man was accused of supporting PDF and tortured to death within 48 hours of the arrest. As a small price for terrorism across the country, junta’s forces were ambushed on December 5 in Demoso Township, Karenni State in which three were killed and five were injured. Also in Kanpetlet Township, Chin State, a clash broke out between regime soldiers and Chin Defense Force (CDF) this morning. Two regime soldiers were killed, and one was severely injured, Khit Thit Media reported.

As mentioned yesterday, Cambodia’s Hun Sen seem set to be getting in bed with Min Aung Hlaing as junta appointed foreign minister Wunna Maung Lwin was seen meeting with him on official visit. Hun Sen could also be visiting the country soon and Myanmar people cannot wait to greet him by banging pots and pans. Meanwhile, National Unity Government (NUG) announced that its treasury bonds will soon be sold in the country with the help of Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) and Kachin Political Interim Coordination Team (KPICT). The exact date and usage will be shared shortly but if the payment involves using local banks, we can already imagine KBZ bank’s authorities licking their lips to freeze their customers’ accounts. A silent strike is to be held on the coming December 10, the majority of the public and businesses set to join in the movement by leaving the streets throughout the country completely empty.
