Freedom Memoirs Vol. 4, Issue 3

In March, families in Myanmar faced immense hardships. The regime targeted able-bodied men for conscription, forcing women to take on multiple roles in the house and hide their loved ones from the junta’s violence. Many young people, including those with stable jobs and families, faced difficult decisions: whether to stay and resist or leave for an uncertain future elsewhere. Among them were individuals like an only son caring for elderly parents, a father supporting a young family, volunteers dedicated to the country’s betterment, and a non-CDM staff contributing to the resistance side from the inside. Despite the desire for a better life elsewhere, some were unable to leave due to various obligations and commitments.

Looking ahead, April and the coming months are expected to bring even greater challenges. Life in Myanmar will likely remain painful until significant change occurs. When it is all said and done, we must know better than to judge those who were unable to leave for reasons that may be complex.
