The Republic of Korea and the World Food Programme (WFP) have announced that they will jointly implement the REACH (Responding With Emergency Assistance For Conflict-Affected Households) program to help Myanmar’s record-high hunger levels. Under the program, Korea’s $10 million in funding will provide emergency assistance to around 300,000 families affected by the conflict and earthquake, as well as 24,000 pregnant and lactating mothers and children with malnutrition prevention and treatment assistance.

The US government has issued a travel advisory for US citizens to avoid all travel to six countries, including Myanmar. Myanmar is also among the six countries that are included in the advisory, which includes Afghanistan, North Korea, Venezuela, Iran and Russia. The advisory is due to the risk of false detention and security threats to US citizens in these countries.

Dr. Aye Maung, chairman of the Arakan Army Front (AFP), who was sentenced to prison in 2019 for treason and disqualification from parliament and declared ineligible to contest future elections by the Union Election Commission, was pardoned after the military took power in 2021.
